WHAT TO EXPECT DURING DENTAL EXAMS
Routine dental exams are an excellent array for oral dental care. They detect dental issues that can result in pain, swelling and costly treatments down the road. Routine dental check-ups are much more than just a visual look on the teeth. The procedure involves:
- Clinical exams: Exam is divided into extra-oral and intra-oral. Extra-oral exam comprises of visual exam and palpation of extra oral swelling, facial asymmetry, issues related to jaw and lips. In Intra-oral exams we visually check teeth for signs of cavities, tooth decay, failing restorations, bite misalignment and crowding of teeth. We also check soft tissues for abnormalities including gums for gum related diseases.
- Digital dental x-rays: Dental x-rays are part of complete diagnostic exams. X rays help us to see issues between the adjoining teeth and beneath the gum line. We rely on digital radiographs to establish the relation between your teeth and the tooth-supporting structures. Full mouth radiographs help to detect anomalies in a number of teeth (extra or missing teeth). It also helps to detect the angulation of impacted teeth and its proximity to nerve and even sinus related issues.
- Oral cancer screening: During exams we screen your mouth and throat to look out for lesions, lumps or abnormalities that indicate the presence of oral cancer. Early detection is the key of success. Dental exams aren’t all about cavities and gum disease.
